Mark Philippoussis ‘The Scud’

Mark Philippoussis was nicknamed ‘The Scud’, after the Scud missile because he was one of the biggest servers and his serves were described as tennis ball missiles.

Philippoussis was criticized during his career as being a wasted talent, this was because many believed he underachieved and had the talent to win multiple Grand Slam tournaments. In addition, he was often portrayed as a party boy that drove flashy cars, dated celebrities and loved the social life.

Philippoussis best results in Grand Slams was reaching the final of the US Open in 1998, where he lost to Pat Rafter, and reaching the final of Wimbledon in 2003, losing to Roger Federer.

Interesting fact about Philippoussis: he was the lead star in an American reality TV dating series called the Age of Love in 2007.
