Kobe Bryant chose the nickname ‘The Black Mamba’ for himself as his alter ego on the court. It was an alter-ego he created to get through a dark part of his life when he was dealing with sexual assault allegations. Bryant became ‘The Black Mamba’ during games to help separate his professional life from his personal life while on the court.
In 2011, Bryant and Nike collaborated to create a short movie with action movie director Robert Rodriguez based on the character ‘The Black Mamba’.
Bryant won an Oscar for his animated short film “Dear Basketball”, a film based on his farewell letter when he announced his retirement from basketball.
