Ekaterina Gamova ‘Game Over’

Ekaterina Gamova is a retired Russian volleyball player, who at 202cm in height was one of the tallest female athletes in the world. Gamova won gold medals with the Russian nation team at the 2006 and 2010 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships, and silver medals in the Athens 2004 and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Gamova explains on her website that the Canadians gave her the nickname ‘Game Over’, because of her last name. Given her size and ability to dominate the game her nickname was fitting.
