Christian Okoye is a Nigerian-American former American footballer who played fullback for the Kansis City Chiefs from 1987 to 1992. Okoye grew up in Enugu, Nigeria and moved to the USA when he was offered a scholarship at the Azusa Pacific University from the track and field coaches.
Okoye possessed an ideal combination of size and speed, at 6’1″, 250lb he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds. He was drafted in the second round by The Chiefs in 1987, and soon became known for his powerful running and ability to break tackles.
Okoye was given his nickname ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ by Chiefs teammate Irv Eatman as his reaction and description of seeing Okoye run over defenders in practice and games.
During his six NFL seasons, Okoye won the league rushing title in 1989, and was a two-time Pro Bowler (1989, 1991).
