Arantxa Sánchez Vicario “Barcelona Bumblebee’

Arantxa Sánchez Vicario reached the number one ranking for tennis in 1995, becoming the first Spanish player to be ranked number one in the world.

Sánchez Vicario was given her nickname ‘The Barcelona Bumblebee’ by sports journalist and tennis historian Bud Collins, for the way she used her speed around the court and hustling down balls.

The Barcelona Bumblebee won four Grand Slam singles titles, six Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, and four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles
